You probably saw the title of this blog and wondered what the term “walk” has to do with remodeling… (Other than the fact that I walk hundreds of steps daily while working in our client’s homes I’d say there’s absolutely nothing in common). All that being said, I wanted to write about a dear friend, Leilani Labrie, who battled and won a bout with breast cancer two years ago! Although Lani has health insurance she faced a financial battle which came from the abundant amount of co-pay invoices from the doctor’s visits during her treatments. All of those bills add up quickly so she strived to organize a fundraiser to help both her and her mother in law since they were diagnosed with breast cancer three weeks apart.
What formed as the Wiggity Wig Walk has become a huge success and continues to support local cancer patients directly. The event is a three mile walk starting at Nick’s 114 Café, an intermission break at Gullifty’s Bar and ends at Flinchy’s (Home of the Hot Rock). Oh, and I’d like to mention that Matt Flinchbaugh (Owner of Flinchy’s) is offering some great food and drink specials, live entertainment and raffles!
This year the Wiggity Wig Walk is supporting two great individuals:
- Vicki Stambaugh (age 55) from York, PA who is fighting terminal bone cancer which spread from her breast cancer.
- Emilia Dameshek (age 10) from Lemoyne, PA who is fighting Ewing’s Sarcomo and currently taking on five chemotherapy treatments per week.
In recognizing the hardships of others during these times, I got together with Lani to become a sponsor of the event. Breast Cancer has affected the lives of many including myself… Quite a few years back my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was a stressful time for my family. During the decision of removing one of her breasts, the doctors were explaining the process to my parents and then my dad passed out ending up in the hospital overnight. (Although we joke around about it now) both he and my mom survived and life goes on.
A lot of great local companies have stepped up to sponsor the event so I wanted to list them as well:
- Faulkner Honda
- Nick’s 114
- Flinchy’s
- Gullifty’s
- A Child’s Eyes
- Knoll Insurance Agency, Inc
- Lux Salon
- Red Robin
- Pizza Hut
- Vows Wedding & Event Planner
- American Cancer Society
